Tree Preservation Order and Conservation Area Applications

Trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and those located within Conservation Areas are subject to legal controls designed to protect their amenity, landscape, and environmental value under the UK Government Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the Town and Country Planning (Tree Preservation) (England) Regulations 2012. Carrying out unauthorised works to protected trees can result in enforcement action and significant penalties, making it important to obtain the correct advice and permissions before any work is undertaken.

I provide professional arboricultural advice and support for TPO and Conservation Area applications, helping homeowners, landowners, developers, and property managers navigate the application process with confidence. My services include site inspections, assessment of tree condition and management requirements, preparation of supporting documentation, and submission guidance in accordance with local authority requirements and current planning legislation.

Applications may be required for a range of works including pruning, crown reduction, thinning, deadwood removal, root management, or tree removal. My reports clearly explain the justification for proposed works, supported by arboricultural evidence where necessary, helping local authorities make informed decisions while promoting appropriate tree management and retention wherever possible.

Where trees present structural concerns, health decline, safety issues, or conflicts with development proposals, I provide balanced and practical recommendations that consider both legal responsibilities and the long-term value of the tree. Advice may also include management options aimed at retaining trees safely rather than recommending unnecessary removal.

Whether dealing with a single garden tree or multiple protected trees on a development site, I provide clear, professional guidance throughout the process to help ensure compliance with planning legislation, local authority requirements, and best arboricultural practice.
