BS5837:2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction. Recommendations - Reports

BS5837:2012 tree surveys and arboricultural planning reports are a compulsory part of the planning and development process where trees may be affected by proposed works. I provide professional arboricultural consultancy services to support residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments, helping clients meet local authority planning requirements while ensuring the successful integration and protection of trees on site.

Working in accordance with British Standards Institution BS5837:2012 ‘Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction – Recommendations’, I undertake detailed site assessments to identify the quality, condition, and constraints associated with existing trees. Surveys typically include tree categorisation, dimensions, Root Protection Areas (RPAs), and an assessment of the potential impact of development proposals on retained trees.

I provide a full range of BS5837 documentation, including Tree Constraint Plans (TCPs), Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIAs), Tree Protection Plans (TPPs), and Arboricultural Method Statements (AMSs). These reports are designed to assist architects, developers, planning consultants, and local authorities throughout the planning and construction process, from initial feasibility through to project completion.

Holding an FdSc in Arboriculture and Tree Management, I have experience working alongside architects, landscape designers, developers, and planning consultants to deliver practical arboricultural solutions that balance development objectives with tree retention and protection. I also have experience liaising with local authorities to help ensure applications and supporting documentation meet planning requirements and industry standards.

Whether for small residential extensions or large-scale development sites, I provide clear, professional arboricultural advice focused on achieving planning compliance, sustainable development, and the long-term retention of valuable trees.
