Aerial Tree Inspections

I provide aerial tree inspections to carry out detailed assessments of a tree’s structural condition, canopy health, and internal defects that may not be visible during a ground-based inspection.

Where required, aerial inspections are recommended following an initial ground inspection to allow closer investigation of defects, decay, or structural concerns identified from ground level. In many cases, issues such as cavities, decay pockets, included unions, bark dysfunction, deadwood, storm damage, or fungal activity can only be properly assessed through close aerial examination within the crown.

Inspections are carried out using professional climbing techniques and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), depending on the site conditions, tree condition, and the safest method of access. I carefully select the most appropriate approach to ensure safe access while minimising disturbance to the tree and the surrounding environment.

Aerial inspections are particularly useful where trees display visible structural defects, where there are concerns regarding safety or risk, or where high-value and veteran trees require a more detailed assessment before management decisions are made. These inspections can support tree risk assessments, decay detection, and planning or development-related assessments.

During the inspection, I assess branch structure, decay extent, structural integrity, canopy vitality, pruning history, and any defects that may affect the long-term stability or management of the tree. Findings are provided within a clear and professional report, including practical recommendations for remedial works, monitoring, further investigation, or retention where appropriate.

By carrying out close aerial inspections, I am able to provide accurate and informed arboricultural advice while helping avoid unnecessary tree works or removals through a better understanding of the tree’s actual condition.
